Move over Frankie, My Little Pony is going to Hollywood. I just stumbled on to these adorable My Little Pony figures by creator/Artist Mari Kasurinen. As they are all handmade and unique, they have been seeling for about £330 a pop. All worth it considering the work and beauty of these little guys. Guide to Liverpool Markets - Orange Grove Road, Liverpool

I visited the Liverpool Markets a few weeks back. I remember visiting this centre when it first opened, and the traffic on the highway was insane. It took over an hour just to get in! Since then, the hype has died down a little (phew) but is still a great place to see all the lovely things that you see at markets.

The 80's are Back! Exhibition at Powerhouse Museum

Did you hear? THE 80'S ARE BACK!

If you ever wished you could turn back the hands of time, here is your chance with the '80's are back' exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. The 80's were the pinnacle decade for music, fashion, parties, politics and of course, bad perms.

The 80's has arguably crowned one of the most interesting decades so far and is still often used as the new generation source of inspiration. The decade of My little Ponies, Transformers, Sampling, Compact Disc (CD), Eddie Murphy, Michael Jackson, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future are some of the things that made the 80's great.

The 80's are Back! Exhibition at Powerhouse Museum

How To Make A Plastic Bag Holder | Free Tutorial

As we all know, plastic bags are pretty handy to have around the house and there are a million good purposes that plastic bags serve. However, there comes a time when it seems like they start to take over and you have so many plastic bags that it's hard to manage them. You don't want to throw them out so you can use them later, so you end up putting plastic bags, in plastic bags in another bulky bag and so on. So, I decided, enough was enough and I decided make myself a plastic bag holder from tea towel that are already floating around the house.

Step 1: I had an idea oh how I would go about to create this, but I decided it would be safer to just follow this step by step PDF created by Seth Custer, Paul Gralewski and Erica Voss. Or if you like, you can have a look at another step by step at Make it - Love it. 

Step 2: Gather all your pieces that you need together:

1 kitchen towel

1 yard of ¼-inch ribbon 

2 feet of elastic 

Scissors 

Pins 

Sewing needles 

Thread that matches the background of your towel 

Sewing machine

Iron  

Ironing board

Ruler 

Pencil

Step 3:  Lie the tea towel flat and cut some elastic a bit over half width of the towel (make sure that when stretched, the elastic can reach comfortably across the towel.)

Step 4: Using a pencil, Draw some edges on the wrong side of the towel along the width, this will create a pretty frill where you will be sewing the elastic to. If you don't want to leave the frill, alternatively, you can stitch the elastic on the edge and fold over the hem, creating a scrunched effect.

Step 5: Using a pencil, draw a point in the middle of the elastic. Pin the elastic to the line you have just drawn placing the centre of the elastic, in the centre of the towel. Pin the loose edges of the elastic on the edge of the tea towel, leaving 2-3 cm off the towel and pin these down. Repeat on both widths of the towel.

Step 6: Do a  baste stitch where you have placed the pins - this will keep it in place when you machine sew it.

Step 7: Using your sewing machine or hand stitch, sew the elastic to where you you have pinned it. Be sure to keep the elastic tight as you sew it, so it scrunches up. 

Step 8: Put the towel inside out (wrong side facing out) and sew the length of the tea towel together. This is very easy with the sewing machine.

Step 9: On the inside of the top end, sew a piece of ribbon in the shape of a loop, to hang the bag

Step 10: Add any decorations you like - I've tied a bow and sewed it on

Petite People Presents Handcraft Market | Coming up 3rd April

An all new, and very exciting handmade baby, toddler and children’s market is about to hit Western Sydney. The Petite People handcraft market will first come alive in April 2011. The markets founder, Crystal Lloyd, have been working for very long and very hard to bring this amazing market to the great folk of Sydney.

The market will be home to the most gorgeous baby, toddler and children’s handmade boutique items. Including handpicked examples of a vast range of gorgeous, unique clothing, accessories, arts, crafts, homewares and toys for your little princes and princesses. It will be a shopper's paradise for those who are looking for unique but stylishly goodies.

It's a great chance to get some unique items from some of Australia's most talented artists, crafters and designers and also have the opportunity to meet the makers at the market.

And for the kiddies there is always plenty of fun to be had by getting their faces painted, grabbing a showbag and meeting some really cool characters. Dora The Explorer will be doing a meet and greet from 11am until 12 noon, so don't forget to bring your cameras. As QV Skin Care will be sponsoring the event, the first 100 families will get a "Mumma's and Bubba's Bag's" on April 3.

So come along, grab some yummy lunch, homemade sweets, a coffee or cold drink and be inspired by some of our amazing local talent. Show your support to some of our fantastic local artists, crafters and designers.

Sydney Craft Expo 2011 Rosehill Racecourse | Review

Festival Girl Rates: 8.5/10

The Sydney Craft Expo is over for another year, but what a fun, craft filled event it was. Organised by Expertise Events, they are the same organisers as the Quilt and Craft Fair and conveniently organised a free shuttle bus from Parramatta station every half hour. There was even heaps of parking.  Having signed up to the event's craft VIP club entitled me to receive $5 off the normal $15 daily adult price and also entitled me to arrive 15 minutes earlier than the 'public' (Although, I didn't take advantage of this as I accidently slept in and arrived at 11am.)

The Expo featured a number of scheduled seminars, make and take workshops and the opportunity to experience the very fun, Clothes Swap (where I was nearly trampled by 20 clothes-crazed women). There were live demonstrations of the Sydney Woodturners Association as well as a demonstration on how to make Art from napkins.

I managed to catch Liz Colledge from Punch with Judy at the discovery desk covering quick tips for making bags using accessories and hardware. Also, I took an hour off my tired legs and watched the Katkins Cloth Doll Seminar and was fascinating to see how Karlene Atkins creates her dolls of Art. 

I was curious to try the Posh Bangles from Posh Pendants make and take session for $30, but I ran out of time. The Textstyle display of the best Year 12 textile major works were on show (unfortuntely, it was strictly no pictures policy, sorry guys) Some of the works are so serene in imagination and skill; I can barely sew a skirt.

And on top of all that, there was even a relaxing performance from a Peruvian pan pipes performer. For those after a sugar fix, yummy waffles and pancakes were available and also lots of rest stations for bored husbands and yawning boyfriends who have been dragged along to a another craft expo.

There really weren't too many lows the Craft Expo that I could mention, it feels like in the previous event in the same location, there was an upstairs area that had more stalls and activities to look at. So it looks like it maybe a little bit smaller than previous.
